Why tattoo aftercare

A freshly made tattoo is basically an open wound for a couple of days, as with all open wounds you can get complications! To prevent complications such as infections it is very important to take care of your new tattoo.

To think about with a newly made tattoo

Never poke or scratch your tattoo Always keep your tattoo clean, wear clean clothes, bedding, etc. Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo No baths until the tattoo is healed Avoid direct sunlight or solarium for a few weeks Avoid tight clothing as it may irritate the tattoo

Adhesive plastic tattoo aftercare

Tegaderm ™ is a thin self-adhesive plastic that becomes like an extra skin that protects the tattoo from bacteria and infections.

If it is relatively dry under the plastic, you should leave it for 4-7 days. Once the tegaderm is removed, you can use a lotion to moisturize the tattoo, this is just for comfort. If you get BIG wet “bubbles”, remove the plastic after 2 days and take care of the tattoo in the traditional way, see traditional aftercare below. If there are bubbles, you can also come back and ask for a new dressing with tegaderm.

Tegaderm ™ is currently the best tattoo aftercare we use, unfortunately we can not use it for every tattoo for various reasons.

When we can not use tegaderm, you need to take care of the tattoo in a more traditional way.

TRADITIONAL TATTOO AFTERCARE

Recommended method when tegaderm is not used! You will receive a plastic film on your tattoo after the procedure, hold this film for 8 hours and start the finishing routine. Clean your tattoo 3-4 times a day with warm water and mild soap. After cleaning, allow the tattoo to air dry. Lubricate with recommended ointment, no thick layers. Continue for 1-2 weeks, depending on how well your tattoo heals

Recommended ointments:

The only way to know which ointment will work for you and your tattoo aftercare is to try, different skin needs different ointment

Hemp Tattoo Care – Made for tattoos, not too dry, not too oily (Available to buy from us).

Helosan – a smooth “drier” ointment that is quickly absorbed by the skin

Bephanthen – An oily, almost Vaseline-like ointment.

H20 OCEAN – Made for tattoos, not too dry, not too greasy.

SIGNS OF AN INFECTED TATTOO

If your tattoo has “wet” areas, is tender, swollen and / or red, it may be an early sign of infection. Later signs are more obvious things like yellow was, pain, redness, swelling, pimples and crust. If this happens, there are some things you can do yourself. Clean your tattoo with mild soap and warm water Let it Air drying Use a chlorhexidine / ethanol disinfectant when the area has dried If the infection is fluid and “wet”, continue with the following: Use a compress like “Sorbact” and fasten it with gauze Change once a day. This method is somewhat effective, the chlorhexidine / ethanol deficient is effective for a long time than other disinfectants. The Sorbact compress is a special compress made to absorb as much bacteria as possible, By reducing the amount of bacteria, the body will be easier to heal and you will not need to take antibiotics. If it gets worse or if you get a fever, you should see a doctor!
